Our Story

At the Civic Ballet of San Luis Obispo, we are passionate about preserving the classical traditions of ballet while embracing its contemporary evolution. Since our founding in 1978, we have been dedicated to removing the barriers to ballet by creating professional-quality and original productions that inspire audiences of all ages.

Our story began with a dream to bring together the talented classical dancers in San Luis Obispo County and produce high-quality classical performances. On December 8th, 1978, our company premiered The Nutcracker with just 15 company dancers, and since then, we have continued to grow and thrive, offering a range of productions including The Nutcracker every holiday season, as well as spring galas and original works.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide professional classical and contemporary ballet performances to the San Luis Obispo and Central Coast community, while also providing education and training to our dancers. We believe in inclusivity and acceptance, and we strive to create an environment that respects each dancer's individual talents and provides opportunities for everyone to grow and develop.
