At Beckman's Dog Training, we believe that every dog has the potential to be a well-behaved, happy, and confident companion. Our unique approach to dog training is based on the experiences of our founders, Joel and Liz Beckman, who spent years training killer whales, dolphins, and other exotic animals. This rare background has shaped our philosophy, system, and approach to dog training, focusing on positive reinforcement and balanced training methods.

Our Philosophy and Methods

We believe that positive reinforcement is the key to successful dog training. Our trainers use treats to reinforce desired behaviors, such as sitting, staying, and walking on a leash, and then gradually phase out the treats as the dog becomes more proficient. We also believe in the power of play, incorporating playtime into all of our group classes, private training sessions, and our Board & Train program.

Our balanced training approach ensures that we address both basic obedience behaviors and more complex issues, such as aggression and fear. We never use shock collars or prong collars, as these methods can cause unpredictable and intense aggression. Instead, we focus on building trust and understanding between the dog and its handler, promoting a lifelong relationship of respect and communication.

Our Team of Trainers

Our team of trainers is the most experienced positive reinforcement team in the country. Each trainer has been mentored by Joel Beckman and has worked with a variety of species, including killer whales, dolphins, big cats, and birds of prey. This diverse background gives our trainers a unique understanding of reactivity and aggression, allowing them to provide the most effective training solutions for dogs of all ages and breeds.

Our Programs

Beckman's Dog Training offers a wide range of programs to fit every budget, schedule, and behavior challenge. Our famous Board & Train program provides comprehensive training and socialization for dogs of all ages, while our private in-home training and private training at our facility offer personalized attention and instruction. We also offer Feisty Fido programs for dogs with specific behavioral challenges, such as aggression or fear.
