Our Staff

Our practice is led by Dr. Christian Wathen, a Board-Certified Internist and an ACP Fellow. Dr. Wathen graduated with high honors from Florida Institute of Technology with a dual undergraduate degree in Pre-Professional and Molecular Biology. She received her medical degree from East Tennessee State University and completed her residency at Christiana Care Health Services in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Wathen has extensive experience in hospital-based and outpatient settings, having worked as a hospitalist and Medical Director for VITAS Hospice. She has been practicing as an outpatient Internal Medicine physician with Riverside Medical Group since 2007.

Dr. Wathen has deep roots in Mathews County, Virginia, where her family has lived since the 1700s. She is married with three children and attends Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Mathews County. Teaching Sunday school to the 11-14 year old children is one of her greatest joys.

Our team also includes Kimberly Burnett, FNP-BC, a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with over 27 years of experience in healthcare. Kim grew up on a farm in a small rural town in Upstate New York, where she learned the importance of faith, family, friendship, and hard work. She received her nursing degree from Binghamton University and returned after graduating in 2008 as a nurse practitioner. Kim has a special interest in adult and chronic illness management, and she works closely with our patients to help them find and maintain their best state of wellness.

Our Commitment

At Middle Peninsula Medical Center, Inc., we are dedicated to providing our members with the highest level of care possible. We believe that our commitment to excellence is evident in the many benefits we offer, including 24/7 availability, guaranteed same day and next day appointments, home visits, and more. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm, with extended hours on Friday until 12:00 pm.
