Espy Lumber

Espy Lumber Company has been a staple in the Lowcountry since 1958, providing quality building materials to contractors and homeowners alike. Founded by Wesley Espy, the company started as Espy Concrete Company, Inc., initially furnishing concrete to the emerging resort developments on Hilton Head Island. Over the years, Espy Lumber has evolved to include a wide range of products and services, including lumber, building materials, and even a Millwork Division for windows, doors, and interior trim.

Our History

In the 1960s, as Hilton Head's population grew, so did Espy Lumber's business. The company expanded to include lumber and building materials, outgrowing its original location on Pope Avenue. In 1971, Espy Lumber acquired two acres of its current five-acre site on Arrow Road, and by 1972, the company had moved to its present location. During the 1970s, the concrete operation was sold, and the lumber and building materials business continued to expand, with the acquisition of an adjacent three-acre parcel for future growth.

Leadership Changes and Expansion

In the mid-1980s, Espy Lumber underwent significant management changes and expanded its products and services to better meet the needs of a changing market. Mike Reeves was promoted to General Manager, and the Millwork Division was established under Don Owens' leadership. This period also saw the creation of a showroom at the Hilton Head location, offering a broader product selection and modernized facilities for improved accessibility and a more professional environment.
