Transforming Lives One Step at a Time

At HeartBeet Farms & Permaculture Center, we are dedicated to providing information and services that enable individuals and communities to meet their needs for food, energy, shelter, and to design decent lives without exploitation or pollution. We believe in working with the earth and with each other to repair the damage caused by industrial overreach and to enrich the living world that sustains us. Our services include growing and selling vegetable and flower seedlings, as well as produce from our gardens and orchard. We also offer online and in-the-field events, workshops, internships, and tours. Our mission is to promote sustainable living and permaculture practices through education and practical applications.

Permaculture Handbook

The Permaculture Handbook, by Peter Bane, is a comprehensive guide to creating resilient and prosperous households and neighborhoods. It includes step-by-step instructions, beautifully illustrated, and extensive case studies of four successful farmsteads and market gardens. This manual casts garden farming as both an economic opportunity and a strategy for living well with less money. It is a must-read for anyone concerned about creating food security, resilience, and a legacy of abundance rather than depletion.

Energy and Permaculture

Our understanding of the natural world and our relationship with it is deeply rooted in the laws of thermodynamics. The first law states that energy is neither created nor destroyed, while the second law describes the tendency of potential energy to be used up and degraded, leading to an increase in entropy. This knowledge is crucial for developing practical tools for creating a more viable and durable basis for human life. Our work is guided by the principles of permaculture, which aim to create systems that are regenerative and self-sustaining.
