English Slipware

English Slipware, also known as English style slip-decorated earthenware, was widely produced in Britain, Wales, and Scotland in the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. Slipware designs were highly defined, and items were produced as a luxury. Many pieces featured elaborate scenes that included ships, moon and stars, as well as birds and flowers. The techniques used with slip included sgraffito, combware, and marbling. Wesley Muckey continues these traditions today.

Pottery Classes

Join us onsite at the Nolde Forest Pottery studio for a three-hour pottery class. Classes begin with an introduction to pottery making and a studio demonstration using techniques from over 100 years ago. Wesley Muckey, with his 39 years of experience in clay, shares his influences and experiences in the pottery world during the class. Each student creates a redware plate with their own design, with as much assistance as needed. Light refreshments are served, and students are welcome to bring their own food and drink. Class dates are announced on Facebook, and reservations are made via email to wesley@noldeforestpottery.com. Class rates are $60.
