Do I Need Earthquake Improvements?

The earthquake resistance of your home can be partially determined by the year it was built. Most homes built prior to the 1980's are in need of improvements to reduce earthquake risk. Some homes built in the 1980's are also in need of earthquake improvements. Homes built in 1990 or after typically were constructed with earthquake resistive features, but not always. If your home was built on a Hillside, was a custom build or has had any additions, it may be at risk of earthquake damage. If you are unsure whether or not your home was constructed with earthquake resistive features, fill out a seismic retrofit proposal & we will respond promptly! What is Seismic Retrofitting?

Seismic retrofitting, or earthquake retrofitting, is the modification of existing structures to create resistance to seismic activity, ground motion, or soil failure due to earthquakes. Seismic retrofitting involves foundation anchors (or foundation bolts), shear panels, and framing connectors, which must all be installed to specific engineering standards in order to achieve the desired result. At Victor Construction & Engineering, we use strengthening methods that are intended to reduce the likelihood of your home being severely damaged in an earthquake.

Meet Mel the Owner

Our company was founded in 1989 by owner Mel Victor. Mel's passion for contracting began as a young boy. His family was stationed in Germany for a brief time during the mid-1960's. During this time, he became intrigued by cuckoo clocks. His family then moved back to California. One day in California, Mel's mother found her beloved cuckoo clock in pieces on the floor! Mel was instantly determined to fix the clock. One of the springs had separated from a gear inside. Mel accomplished the repair of his mother's cuckoo clock, and from that day forward, his passion for building, remodeling, restructuring, maintaining, fixing and repairing has continued to grow. He has an eye for upgrading buildings and structures by bringing new life into older homes.
