From its humble beginnings as Harris Music to its current status as a premier music destination in Whatcom County, our aim has always been to provide high-quality music instruction, instruments, and services to the community.
Our Story
Bellingham Music started its journey as Harris Music in 1983, located in downtown Fairhaven. The store quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional acoustic instruments and guitar instruction. As the business grew, it moved to North State Street and later to its current location at the corner of State and Champion Streets.
Over the years, we have expanded our offerings to include a wider range of instruments, including winds, orchestral instruments, and unique offerings. In 2009, we moved to our current location, where we have established ourselves as a valuable asset to the musical community in Whatcom County.
What We Offer
At Bellingham Music, we pride ourselves on offering a diverse range of services, including:
- Private Lessons: Our experienced instructors provide one-on-one instruction in a variety of instruments, including guitar, piano, ukulele, orchestral instruments, woodwinds, folk instruments, drums, percussion, voice, and electronic production.

Our Facilities
Our convenient downtown location offers easy access by bus and is within walking distance of retail shops, coffee, a climbing gym, and more. While our public retail space has closed, we continue to operate from "The Annex, " a low-key building housing The Red Wall Garage performance space, where lessons, classes, and rehearsals take place.
Consultations and Free Lessons
We invite prospective students to schedule a complimentary consultation to meet with an instructor and discuss their goals and learning style. During this meeting, we will assess the student's abilities and start formulating a personalized lesson plan. For existing students, this meeting can serve as a progress check, allowing us to adjust the lesson plan as needed.
