Our History

Our story began on the tranquil shores of Lake Hopatcong, where a passion for boating and a desire for social connection found common ground. The Garden State Yacht Club was founded in 1948, solidifying its place as a beacon of recreation and entertainment for lakeside residences. In 1949, the club transitioned to its current location, built upon the grounds of the historic Lambert Estate near Ingram Cove, setting the stage for a legacy of unforgettable memories. From its humble beginnings, the GSYC witnessed a period of remarkable growth and transformation. The 1950s and 1960s saw the club flourish within the enchanting Victorian mansion, and with it, a sense of community blossomed. Children learned to swim in the pristine waters, while teenagers gathered in the boathouse, animated with laughter and shared experiences.

Parents socialized in its grand halls, savoring weekend dinners, card games, and lively conversations. The waterfront became alive with the thrum of engines and the laughter of waterskiers, reflecting the growing popularity of powerboats. In 1965, the addition of a pool and upper patio area augmented the offerings of the GSYC, solidifying its position as a premier destination for families and individuals seeking both relaxation and recreation.
