Filling Station

The Filling Station is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the residents of Jones County in North Carolina. Our mission is to assist with filling unmet needs in the areas of Nutrition, Education, and Connection. We believes that everyone deserves access to basic necessities like food, education, and community support, and we strive to provide these essential services to those who need them most.

Our Story

The Filling Station was born out of a long vacant, propane company building, and opened its doors on August 28, 2017. During a walk-through of the building, someone noticed a red hazardous material warning sign with a flame and the number 1075, the DOT classification for propane. The group discovered that Psalm 107:5 read: "They were hungry and thirsty; their lives were slipping away." A new mission was launched and it was called "The Filling Station" to refer to the building's prior use as well as to its new purpose.

Our Services

At The Filling Station, we offer a range of services designed to meet the needs of our community. Our Food Pantry is open two days a week, providing essential groceries to individuals and families in need. We also offer basic computer classes through our partnership with Lenoir Community College, helping to keep our community connected and empowered. Additionally, we partner with the New Bern Amateur Radio Club to provide emergency communication services and support.

Our Impact

Since opening our doors, we have made a significant impact in our community. In 2018, we served as a disaster relief center during Hurricane Florence, providing assistance to over 10,000 individuals and 2500 households. After returning to our main mission, we have served over 60,000 individuals and 20,586 households in Jones County from 2019-2021. We are proud of the work we do and are committed to continuing our mission to fill unmet needs in our community.
