Shadowland Kennels Obedience

Shadowland Kennels has been providing reliable, consistent, and experienced care for dogs since 1993. Our new facility, built in 2000, is located in a spacious country setting in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where your dog can enjoy the fresh air and sights and scents of the Iowa landscape. We take pride in offering safe and experienced boarding care and quality training classes to nurture the canine/human bond.

Our Boarding Services

Our boarding services offer a clean and social environment for your pet while you are away. We have a 3,000 square foot fully matted indoor training facility and an outdoor area, where we take dogs out for potty and play breaks three times a day. Our boarding facility is located at our owner's residence, so Julie McVay, our passionate and experienced owner, is always on hand to supervise and care for the boarding clients. Our business grew organically from our love and passion for dogs, and we have over 28 years of experience in caring for and training dogs.

At Shadowland Kennels, we understand that dogs are social animals and love to make new friends. Our staff is responsible, friendly, and loves dogs, and most dogs genuinely get excited about their visit to Shadowland Kennels. We provide a home away from home for your dog, and we hope your dog can become a part of our extended canine family.

Our Training Classes

We offer a variety of training classes to nurture the canine/human bond and enrich both your lives. We believe that training is the foundation of a fulfilling, lifelong relationship with your dog. Our training classes include:

• Obedience: We offer obedience classes for puppies, adolescent, and adult dogs. We use positive reinforcement techniques to help your dog learn basic obedience commands, such as sit, stay, come, and heel.
• Agility: Agility classes help your dog develop physical and mental agility through a series of obstacles, such as jumps, tunnels, and weave poles.
• K-9 Basics Seminar: Our K-9 Basics Seminar is a four-hour seminar that covers basic obedience, socialization, and problem-solving skills.

At Shadowland Kennels, we understand that every dog is unique and requires individual attention and training. We take the time to get to know your dog and tailor our training classes to meet your dog's specific needs and abilities.

Our Facility

Our facility is located at 2501 Galeston Avenue in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Our indoor training facility is a 3,000 square foot fully matted area, and our outdoor area has roomy indoor/outdoor runs with a 4' x 5' interior (heated floor) and a 4' x 12' exterior run. We take dogs out for potty and play breaks three times a day, and we have a minimum number of nights fee during major holidays and spring break.

We charge by the night only, with no extra charges for partial days. We have a 3-night minimum boarding fee during most major holidays and a 4-night minimum for spring break and Christmas. We require reservations for our boarding services, which must be made ahead of time. We understand that plans can change last minute and will work with you to accommodate any changes.
