At Virag Jewelers, we are proud to be a third-generation, family-owned business that has been serving the Evanston community for over 85 years. Our story began in the early 20th century when our grandfather, Peter Virag, immigrated to the United States and worked as a second-generation watchmaker in his father's jewelry store in Austria-Hungary.
Our History
Our grandfather, Peter, made the bold decision to open his own business in 1936, despite the economic hardships of the Great Depression. The business was originally located at 910 Chicago Avenue in Evanston and was called Peter Virag and Sons Jewelers. Over the years, our family has continued to grow and expand the business, with our father, Adam, joining the company in the late 1930s. Adam played an instrumental role in the business, working alongside his father and later becoming a co-owner.
