Ballet Hawaii

Our History

Ballet Hawaii's rich history dates back to 1976, when it was established as "Friends of the Ballet." Initially, the organization served as the support group for the Honolulu City Ballet, whose first Artistic Director was Jim Hutchison. The company's performances included classic productions such as Nutcracker and Coppelia. Tragically, the Federal C.E.T.A. funding ran out in 1979, forcing the Honolulu City Ballet to cease operations. However, "The Friends of the Ballet" remained committed to supporting ballet in Hawaii and assumed the role of implementer and producer of ballet.

Our Mission

Ballet Hawaii's mission is to teach, present, promote, and produce dance in Hawaii. For over 40 years, we have presented, promoted, and developed dance in Hawaii, showcasing the work of some of the world's finest dancers and choreographers. Our performances have included full-length productions of The Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Alice (In Wonderland), as well as an annual performance of The Nutcracker.

Dance Training

At Ballet Hawaii, we offer a range of dance training programs designed for students of all ages and skill levels. Our structured training programs include adult and teen open classes, summer intensive programs, and master classes. Our experienced faculty consists of dance professionals who are dedicated to providing a supportive and nurturing environment for our students.

Performances and Events

Throughout the year, Ballet Hawaii hosts a variety of performances and events, including our annual Spring Showcase, Performing Ensemble Gala, and The Nutcracker. These events provide our students with the opportunity to perform on stage and showcase their hard work and dedication.
