Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Center

Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a year-round therapeutic recreational horseback-riding program for special needs children and adults. Our center is affiliated with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, PATH International, and we are committed to helping individuals with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, Down Syndrome, autism, brain injury or head trauma, visual and hearing impairments, mental or learning disorders, and muscular dystrophy.

At Horseplay, we believe that horse therapy can have a profound impact on an individual's physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being. Our program is designed to develop strength and balance, and increase self-esteem, allowing individuals to reach their full potential. We are proud to be serving the communities of Contra Costa, Sacramento, Solano, and Yolo counties.

Our History

Horseplay Therapeutic Riding Center was founded in 1995 by RuthAnn Davis, who had a personal experience with the benefits of horse therapy after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. After an auto accident, she used horse therapy to treat her physical needs and was so impressed with the results that she decided to share this therapy with others. With the support of her church and a few volunteers, she started providing therapeutic riding sessions for special needs children from the local community.

Over the years, Horseplay has continued to grow, moving to its current location at Whispering Winds Ranch & Sanctuary in Dixon, California. Today, we have a team of certified instructors and therapists who work with our horses to provide a safe and supportive environment for our riders.

Our Services

Our therapeutic riding program is designed to benefit individuals with a range of special needs. Our trained and certified instructors work one-on-one with each rider to develop a personalized lesson plan that meets their specific needs and goals. We use a variety of techniques, including horse riding, stable management, and equine-assisted therapy, to help our riders develop strength, balance, and self-esteem.
