The Hummingbirds Family Home Daycare, established in 1999, is a licensed daycare facility located in Daly City, CA. Founded by Mary Haas, the daycare was operated alongside assistant Adela Sandino for eight years before Adela took over the business in 2007, fulfilling a lifelong dream. At The Hummingbirds, we pride ourselves on providing a nurturing environment that emphasizes learning through play. Our comfortable home setting offers children a secure place to enjoy their first group play and learning experiences.
Our Staff
Our staff at The Hummingbirds is truly exceptional. Our teachers are dedicated to ensuring that children feel comfortable, well cared for, and loved. Led by Adela, who has over 30 years of experience in the childcare field, our team is committed to providing the best care possible. Adela has held multiple roles in childcare, ranging from private in-home nanny to assistant director and owner of The Hummingbirds. She is a mother of two wonderful children, is pediatric CPR-certified, TB-cleared, and fingerprinted.
Our Services
At The Hummingbirds, we offer a preschool structure for children aged 18 months to 4 years. We believe in balancing indoor and outdoor play to ensure the well-rounded development of both fine and gross motor skills. Our facilities include a variety of play areas, both indoors and outdoors, which are equipped with various toys and activities designed to stimulate learning and growth.
We are open from 8 am until 6 pm, Monday through Friday, and offer both full days (8 am - 6 pm) and short days (9 am - 3:30 pm) for parents to choose from. We follow the same schedule each day, which includes a balance of unstructured and structured activities, meals/snacks, and nap time.
Enrollment for The Hummingbirds takes place in the previous Spring and is limited to 12 children per day. We start the day after Labor Day each year. To enroll, parents can simply fill out an application and mail it back along with a $40 non-refundable application fee. We also maintain a waitlist for enrollment if our program is full when you call.

Our facilities include a variety of play areas, both indoors and outdoors, which are equipped with various toys and activities designed to stimulate learning and growth. Our outdoor play areas are spacious and provide a variety of opportunities for children to engage in physical activity and develop their gross motor skills. We offer a variety of outdoor sports toys and equipment to promote active play and social interaction.
We are proud of our recent donation from Habitat for Humanity SF - a Fire House, which we transformed into a playhouse for the children. We added our own personal finishing touches and are thrilled with the final product.
