Our History and Mission
Founded in 1966 as Wisconsin Judicare, our organization has been dedicated to ensuring fair access to justice in Northern Wisconsin. Our mission is to provide free civil legal services to low-income individuals and Native Americans statewide. As a nonprofit law firm, we are committed to providing equal access to justice to all, regardless of their financial situation.

Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors is comprised of 23 members, with 14 of whom are attorneys. The Board is led by a President and includes representatives from the legal community, local bar associations, and Native American tribes. Our Board members are appointed for fixed terms and are committed to ensuring that our organization remains true to its mission.
Source of Funding
Judicare Legal Aid receives funding primarily from the Legal Services Corporation and the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation. We also receive grants from federal and private foundations, as well as community support from United Way of Marathon County.
Our History
Judicare's history dates back to 1966, when it was founded as an experimental program funded by the Office of Economic Opportunity. In 1972, the program was incorporated as Wisconsin Judicare, Inc., a nonprofit corporation. Over the years, we have evolved and expanded our services to serve 33 northern Wisconsin counties and Wisconsin's 11 federally recognized Indian tribes.
