Our History

Flint River Academy was founded in 1966 by a group of concerned individuals who sought to address the declining quality of public education in the Woodbury area. These visionaries recognized the need for an educational environment that would encourage higher expectations and yield greater opportunities for local students. Their commitment to developing not only the mind but also the body and spirit led to the creation of Flint River Academy.

In March of 1967, construction on the school began, and by the fall of that same year, the school opened its doors to 120 students and 12 faculty members, with Mr. John Moore serving as the first Headmaster. During those early years, Mr. Moore also taught history and coached basketball, tennis, and baseball. The school's commitment to excellence was evident from the start, as the girls' and boys' basketball teams won first place trophies at the South Carolina Independent School Association Tournament during their inaugural year.

Over the years, Flint River Academy has continued to grow and thrive, with dedicated parents filling essential roles and supporting the school in various capacities. Today, we are proud to offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes Lower School, Middle School, Upper School, Media Center, Technology, Fine Arts, and a variety of athletic programs.

• Financial Aid: We understand that investing in a private education can be challenging. Therefore, we offer financial aid options to help make our program more accessible to families who may need assistance.
• Parent-Student Handbook: This comprehensive guide provides detailed information about our policies, procedures, and expectations for both parents and students.
• National Honor Society: We recognize and celebrate the achievements of our high-achieving students through membership in the National Honor Society.
• Academics: Our curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded education, with courses in Lower School, Middle School, Upper School, Media Center, Technology, and Fine Arts.
• Athletics: We offer a variety of athletic programs, including Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross-Country, Football, Shotgun, Softball, Tennis, Track, and Twirl, to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
• Support FRA: We rely on the support of our community to continue providing the highest quality education. Our fundraising efforts include the 30/30 Gun Raffle, Apogee Scholarship Fund, Fall Festival, Truck Raffle, Night on the Flint, and School Store.
