IRONBOUND Boxing Academy

Ironbound Boxing is a non-profit organization based in Newark, New Jersey, dedicated to providing free amateur boxing training for opportunity youth since 2017. Our mission is to build champions in and out of the ring by offering not just boxing training but also supported entrepreneurship, business education, mentorship, and paid internships through our Courage Academy and THRIVE incubator programs.

Our Approach: Boxing Changes Lives

Our approach is simple yet effective. First, we invite kids to box with us, providing them with access to a 1300 square feet city-owned recreation center. We believe that by showing up and putting in the work, they can achieve their goals, both in and out of the ring. While a fraction of our athletes do win national titles, our primary goal is to build future community leaders, successful business owners, and powerful contributors.

Our training goes beyond the physical aspect of boxing, focusing on building mental strength, discipline, and healthy relationships with peers and coaches. Our students say that boxing has given them goals to work towards, made them stronger, and given them confidence. One student athlete even said, "Boxing is not just about the physical body. It's the mind. And it's the relationships: with your peers, with your coaches. You learn confidence, you learn how to help people."

The Ironbound Courage Academy: Building a Complete Boxing Training Gym

We are excited to announce that we have been given a rare opportunity to transform a 5,000 square-foot retail space in downtown Newark into the first IRONBOUND Courage Academy. This facility will physically combine a complete boxing training gym with THRIVE, our small business incubator. With your help, we can build this state-of-the-art facility and provide even more resources and opportunities to our student athletes and young entrepreneurs.

Our Results: Making a Difference

In just a few years, we have already made a significant impact in our community. We have coached and trained over 75 boxers to compete at the highest levels of amateur boxing, awarded over $15,000 in microgrants to young entrepreneurs, and helped over 40 young adults go to college, launch businesses, and find fulfilling and rewarding jobs with local and national companies. Our programs are 100% free, thanks to sponsors like you.
