Our story began in 1951 when Joe Whylie established Whylie Eye Care, and over the years, we have grown from two to our current nine locations throughout Central Iowa. We've helped thousands of customers take care of their eyes, and we're proud to continue doing so today.

Our History

Whylie Eye Care Centers has a rich history that dates back to 1951 when Joe Whylie founded the company. Lois Copple, a local entrepreneur and optometrist, purchased the business from Joe Whylie in 1970 and grew the optical business from two locations to its current nine locations. Lois was a beloved fixture in the Des Moines community, appearing in numerous TV commercials and advocating for regular eye exams and strong relationships with eye doctors. In 2013, Lois retired, handing over the reins to her sons, Vincent and Kenton. Under their leadership, Whylie Eye Care Centers has remained committed to providing exceptional eye care and personalized service to every customer.
