Nestled in a small town of 1,600 residents, Shady Oaks Recreation Association is a premier golf destination located just 15 minutes East of Abilene on I-20. Since its inception in 1969, the course has undergone significant enhancements, including the addition of a new nine in 1992, the incorporation of water hazards, trees, and subtle mounding to its layout, as well as constant upgrades to its facilities. As a result, Shady Oaks has evolved into an outstanding facility that continues to attract serious golfers and families alike.

Explore Our Course: Hole by Hole

Shady Oaks is proud to offer golfers a unique and challenging course layout. With subtle nuances and challenging hazards, each hole on the course provides its own set of challenges and rewards. Here is a breakdown of each hole:

• Hole #1: Par 4, Water hazards on the right at the dogleg. This green is trapped on three sides.
• Hole #2: Par 3, One trap on the left. The green slopes from the back to the front.
• Hole #3: Par 4, Avoid the fairway trap on the left. This green is 100 feet long with a sand trap on the left.
• Hole #4: Par 5, Short par 5 with water hazards on the right front of the green and a sand trap behind the left of the green.
• Hole #5: Par 4, Dogleg right par 4 around waste area bunker. Green slopes from the back to the front and is protected by a greenside bunker.
• Hole #6: Par 4, Slight dogleg on the right with a sand trap on the left front of the green.
• Hole #7: Par 3, Green fronted by the water hazard and a greenside sand trap on the right. Also a water hazard on the left to the back of the green.
• Hole #8: Par 3, Long par 3 with a small green and fronted by a grassy knoll.
• Hole #9: Par 4, Slight dogleg right with out of bounds on the right.
• Hole #10: Par 5, Long par 5 with a water hazard parallel to the right side of the fairway.
• Hole #11: Par 4, Sand traps on both right and left in front of the green.
• Hole #12: Par 4, Severe dogleg right with fairway waste bunker on the right 135 yards from the green.
• Hole #13: Par 3, Generous green with sand traps on both the right and left of the green.
• Hole #14: Par 4, Long uphill fairway.
• Hole #15: Par 4, The green is 50 feet below the tee box area. Sand traps on both the right and left of the 100 foot long green.
• Hole #16: Par 3, A wide green but narrow depth. Water along left of the fairway up to the green and a sand trap on the right front of the green.
• Hole #17: Par 5, No traps on this hole, but two large trees in the fairway.
• Hole #18: Par 4, Long par 4 with a huge water hazard from the tee box to the 150 yard marker on the right.
