Our Story

At Archer Salon, we believe that beauty is not just about aesthetics; it's about creating a sense of self-confidence and inner beauty that transcends our physical appearance. Our story began more than three decades ago on Maiden Lane, the heart of San Francisco's exclusive fashion district. Our owner, Gari James Cuevas, was drawn to the beauty industry because of its potential to transform lives through creativity and self-expression. He began his career as a colorist and stylist at Sherlee Rhine's 77 Maiden Lane Salon, where he was influenced by the philosophy of making beauty fun and accessible.

Over the years, Gari has honed his skills by attending numerous workshops and classes around the world, from New York to Miami, Las Vegas, Long Beach, and London. He has competed in state-wide competitions, earning two first-place trophies and finishing at the top of his class at Miss Marty's Beauty School. His dedication to his craft and his commitment to providing exceptional service led to his promotion to the floor as a color specialist at Sherlee Rhine's 77 Maiden Lane Salon.

Gari's tenure at 77 Maiden Lane was a defining period in his career. He served as artistic director, revamped the color program, handled media events, and consulted when the salon expanded to become the largest west of the Mississippi, designed by Steven Volpe. After a decade at 77 Maiden Lane, Gari joined the Joseph Cozza Salon team in the Gump's building, where he introduced balayage to their color program, helping to expand and update their color repertoire. He attended the first hair painting class (Balayage) at Bumble and Bumble university in the Meat Packing District of New York City and later that same year attended the L'oreal Academy for balayage in SoHo.

During his time at Joseph Cozza, Gari established strong professional relationships that later helped build Archer Salon. He also attended The Academy of Art college in San Francisco, where he applied fine art techniques to his coloring curriculum, creating his signature style. Training one's eye to the nuances of color and shape became his passion in teaching, and it is these principles of design that set us apart at Archer.

Since establishing Archer in 2012, Gari has taken his time curating a diverse team of talented stylists and colorists. He has also created an environment unique in San Francisco's salon world by inviting a team of celebrity stylists/friends to travel from LA to work at Archer. Our philosophy is to create a sophisticated yet intimate environment that provides the highest caliber of services in beauty.
