Our Story

At Greencrest Manor, we're not just about hosting events, we're about creating experiences that will be remembered for generations to come. Our story begins with a spark of love and the possibilities that the future would hold. George R. Burt, son of a Michigan lumber baron, came to Battle Creek to pursue a business career. He and his wife, Nellie Zinn, vowed to build a home in their favorite picnic spot overlooking St. Mary's Lake. Despite facing tragedy when George passed away, Nellie fulfilled their dream and completed the structure in an authentic French-Normandy style, surrounded by extensive formal gardens.

The estate changed hands several times over the years, with each owner leaving their mark. However, it wasn't until Tom and Kathy VanDaff purchased the property in 1987 that the real restoration began. They dedicated their lives to returning the property to its former glory, and in 1989, the property proudly re-opened to the public as a bed & breakfast. Today, under the current ownership of Jenn and Dave, we continue to honor the legacy of those who came before us while adding our own touch of love and dedication to the property.
