Our Story

Sacred Heart Care Center has a rich history dating back to 1964, when it was founded as Sacred Heart Hospice. The name "Hospice" was chosen to reflect its meaning as "a place where weary travelers may rest." The construction of the facility was made possible through a large bequest from Fred Dugan, a former Hormel treasurer, who saw a need in Austin for a retirement home that would offer beauty, purpose, and dignity to the lives of its residents, as well as quality health care services. Today, our skilled nursing facility, serving 59 residents, continues in that tradition.

Our Mission

Our mission is to continue the ministry of Christ by providing comprehensive health care that encompasses the spiritual, physical, social, mental, and emotional needs of our residents and clients. We achieve this through the employment of competent staff, maintenance of facilities, and efficient use of resources. We operate in conformity with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, in the Franciscan spirit of simplicity, and with a special concern for the elderly, disabled, and unwell.
