At Studio Signs & Pictorial Displays, we take pride in being one of Portland's oldest continually operating commercial sign shops. Established in 1963, our team has been dedicated to creating top-quality custom signs using traditional sign painting techniques combined with modern materials and technologies. Our founder, Dean G. Stanley, started this journey with a passion for beautiful pictorial paintings and a commitment to excellence, which has been passed down through generations.

Our Story

After serving in WWII, Dean G. Stanley attended sign painting school and worked as a billboard painter for Foster & Kleiser in Portland, OR. In 1963, he founded Studio Signs & Pictorial Displays in SE Portland, specializing in beautiful pictorial paintings and landscape murals. Over the years, many skilled sign painters worked alongside Stanley, including Harry Morgan, Norm Forsberg, and Melvin Lee. In 1984, Stanley sold the business to Lee, who adapted to the changing sign industry by embracing computer-aided design and vinyl plotters while maintaining traditional hand-crafted signs.
