Sodaro Estate Winery

Sodaro Estate Winery, a gem nestled in the Coombsville AVA of Napa Valley, is the brainchild of Don and Deedee Sodaro. The winery's roots trace back to Don's early years on his father's farm in Illinois, where he found solace in the tranquility of the countryside and developed an unwavering appreciation for farming. After establishing a successful inn chain across America, Don's passion for agriculture led him to purchase land in Napa Valley with the dream of building a world-class vineyard. This dream became reality in 1998, when Sodaro Estate Winery was founded.

The path to creating Sodaro Estate Winery was not without its challenges. Years of meticulous testing and planning were invested before the first seed was planted. Once the ground was broken, Don and his vineyard manager nurtured each vine with great care, crafting the vineyard that produces the winery's world-class wines today. The exceptional soil and terroir quickly proved ideal for growing outstanding fruit, and an expert winemaker was brought on board to transform the berries into fine wine. With time, Sodaro Estate Winery blossomed into the successful winery it is today.

In addition to his pursuits in wine, Don also founded Hanford Hotels, a company that owns accommodations throughout California, and has served on the Chapman University board of trustees for 25 years, 11 of those as chairman. He remains an active board member and is currently the chairman emeritus.

At Sodaro Estate Winery, we are fortunate to grow our grapes in a climate and on terroir that is nothing short of perfection. Our vineyards are situated in the foothills formed by volcanic ash, blanketed in alluvial flows, and interspersed with cobblestone-streaked layers of rich loam. The proximity of the nearby San Pablo Bay regulates the temperature, providing ideal conditions for grapes to mature slowly and ripen evenly. Realizing an ideal requires dedication and a willingness to persevere against formidable odds. It means understanding that our business is forever at the mercy of Mother Nature, who can at times be a hostile enemy, and at others, prove invaluable to the successful flourishing of our fruit.

A vine bred in a nursery is nothing more than a baby-small and delicate-and needs tender love to mature into quality fruit. As vines age, they ripen in welcomed complexity, growing better with each passing year, and the wine created from their berries reflects this natural progression toward perfection.
