A Piece of Modesto History

American Lumber Company was founded by William R. Mensinger, a first-generation American whose father immigrated to Iowa in 1850 from Schleswig. After becoming a farmer, rancher, and real estate developer, he opened Modesto's first theatre, which unfortunately burnt down. He then opened Modesto's second theatre, which still stands on Tenth Street in Modesto. American Lumber Company was built at 9th and M Street in downtown Modesto and remains at that location to this day.

In the 1970s, American Lumber Company added a hardware store to its facilities. In the early 1990s, we began selling high-quality wood, windows, and patio doors from Andersen, Marvin, and JELD-WEN. We are also a certified dealer for Milgard Vinyl windows and have an extensive door and window showroom. Since 1923, American Lumber Company has been owned and operated by members of the Mensinger family, and we continue to serve the Modesto community with the same commitment to quality and service that has defined us for over a century.

Our Services

At American Lumber Company, we offer a range of services to meet your needs, including:

• Mill Services: Our comprehensive mill, consisting of a planer, table saw, wide belt sander (36), joiner, and more, is here to make your projects a reality. We have a fast turn-around time; phone/fax/email your order in (or bring your plans in) and pick it up or have it delivered, a few hours later. (All millwork has to be paid for in advance.)
• Delivery Services: American Lumber Company offers free delivery in the greater Modesto area with any order of $400 or more. Free delivery is also available outside the Modesto area for larger orders. Most in-stock orders can be delivered within one business day.
• Wood Door Shop: Our wood door shop can have most jobs completed within a few days, and we offer a wide variety of styles, materials, and finishes to choose from.
• Shop the Mill and Wood Doors: Our mill and wood door shop are here to help you bring your projects to life. Whether you need custom millwork, doors, or other building materials, we are here to help.
• Lumber, Windows, Doors, and Building Materials: We offer a wide variety of lumber, windows, doors, and building materials to meet your needs. Our knowledgeable staff can help you find the right materials for your project.
