Our hotel is a beautifully restored 70-room historic property, comprised of seven row houses built in the mid-1800s. Our History
Our property has a rich history, dating back to the early 19th century. The land on which our hotel stands was originally part of a 100-acre tract purchased by Thomas Rutherfoord, who later sold a portion of the land to his brother-in-law, Parson Blair. In 1847, Charles Ellis built a series of houses on the land, which were later sold to Fleming James, who built additional houses, including the ones that make up our hotel today. Throughout the years, our property has been home to many notable residents, including Edgar Allan Poe, who spent his childhood playing in the garden that is now our intimate, beautiful winding garden courtyard.
