Compassionate Guidance When You Need it Most
At Landess Funeral Home and Crematory, we are deeply committed to providing our community with compassionate and dignified funeral services. Our story began in 1920 when E.W. Landess, a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois, came to Campbell, Missouri, and established our funeral home. Since then, we have been dedicated to helping families in their time of need.
Our History
Over the years, our business has grown and evolved. In 1934, E.W. Landess and his son Robert B. Landess formed a partnership, and they purchased the old Medley home in Campbell, which was converted into a modern funeral establishment. In 1938, Robert married Christina Martin, a school teacher from Holcomb, Missouri, who became interested in the business and attended the St. Louis College of Mortuary Science in 1939, with distinguished honors. She became a licensed embalmer and funeral director in Missouri and Arkansas.
In 1945, this marriage ended in divorce, and Christine Landess continued with the firm. She was the first woman appointed to the Missouri State Board of Embalming, serving 12 years from 1953 to 1965. She was also the first woman to serve as President of District 11, Missouri Funeral Directors Association.
In 1954, Christine Landess married Richard V. Beall of Lubbock, Texas, formerly of Malden, Missouri. At that time, he was associated with the Anderson-Clayton Cotton Company in Lubbock. In 1960, Richard graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, where he earned a scholarship and was placed on the Dean's list. His educational background included an A.B. Arts and Science degree from Washington University in St. Louis. He was a licensed embalmer and funeral director in Missouri and Arkansas. Richard became a member of the firm when the new Landess Funeral Home, Inc. of Malden, Missouri was opened for business on January 1, 1961. E.W. Landess died in 1960.
In 1968, Richard and Christine Landess Beall purchased the Robert Landess interest in the business. Robert Landess died in 1969. Richard Beall died in 1993. January 15, 1977 marked the date of formal opening of the newly built Landess Funeral Home, Inc. for Campbell, Missouri. This 10,600 square foot building sits on 3 acres of land on Highway 53 North, in Campbell, Missouri.
