With almost 30 years of experience, Dr. Mary Languirand is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in helping adults navigate life's transitions. Dr. Languirand earned her doctorate at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1987 and completed her internship at the R. H. Hutchings Psychiatric Center in Syracuse, NY. She has since practiced in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York, where she opened her private practice in Garden City. Dr. Languirand remains licensed to practice in NY, MD, and PA, and has extensive experience working in various healthcare settings, including psychiatric and general hospitals, outpatient treatment programs, and long-term care facilities.

Dr. Languirand specializes in treating adults who are experiencing life transitions, such as relocation, career path changes, relationship and role changes, and retirement. She has extensive experience in the psychological treatment of older adults and those who care for them, including adult children of aging parents. Additionally, Dr. Languirand helps people cope with grief following a loss and with issues related to illness and disability.

Dr. Languirand offers individual psychotherapy to adults aged 21 and up. She has a particular interest in helping people cope with significant losses, including illness, the stress of caregiving, being parted from family and friends, or coping with the death of important people in their lives. She treats depression, anxiety, fears and phobias, stress-related disorders, and psychological symptoms related to medical disorders.

Dr. Languirand can also help address issues related to weight and eating, appearance and body image. She provides some cognitive assessment services to adults, including dementia screening and documentation of progressive cognitive changes associated with age. She offers comprehensive personality assessment for adults and pre-screening evaluations for bariatric surgery candidates, recognized as a specialist in this area by numerous insurers. Dr. Languirand also provides ongoing therapy to help individuals adjust to the psychological and interpersonal changes that often accompany significant weight loss.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Languirand has co-authored several books for professionals and books that help people navigate today's complex health and mental health systems.
