Founded in 1995, Riverwood's mission is to empower individuals through certified equine-assisted services and farm-based learning opportunities. We are a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) Premier Accredited center, signifying our unwavering commitment to excellence and the highest standards of safety and quality instruction. Riverwood serves 65 individuals weekly, offering a wide range of programs tailored to meet their unique needs and abilities. Our dedicated team of nationally certified instructors and highly skilled staff are passionate about creating a positive and impactful experience for each participant.

Our Programs

Riverwood offers a diverse array of programs designed to enhance physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being. Therapeutic Riding, our flagship program, utilizes the unique qualities of horses to improve muscle tone, balance, posture, coordination, and motor development in individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. Through guided horseback riding sessions, participants develop self-confidence, increase independence, and experience the joy of movement and connection.

Beyond Therapeutic Riding, Riverwood provides Community-Based Learning, a dynamic program that integrates equine-assisted activities into academic and vocational settings. Participants develop essential life skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, while engaging in meaningful learning experiences with horses.

Able-Bodied Riding caters to individuals seeking to experience the thrill and joy of horseback riding for recreational and fitness purposes. Our experienced instructors provide a fun and supportive environment for riders of all levels to learn, grow, and connect with these magnificent animals.

Mobile Educational Outreach extends Riverwood's mission to underserved communities by bringing equine-assisted activities and learning opportunities directly to schools, clinics, and organizations throughout our service area. Our dedicated team travels with portable equipment, providing engaging and interactive programs that promote physical therapy, emotional resilience, and educational enrichment.

Equine Facilitated Learning, our innovative team-building and leadership development program, harnesses the power of horses to foster communication, trust, and collaboration in a unique and transformative setting. Participants learn valuable life skills, develop emotional intelligence, and build lasting bonds with one another and the horses.
