Transforming Your Vision into Reality
Chenango Valley Kennels, a grouse world hallmark, is a little slice of heaven located in New York State's breathtaking Chenango Valley. Our kennel is home to exceptional English Setters, grouse dogs that are not only talented hunting partners but also beloved family members. We are dedicated to breeding and training English Setters that share our passion for grouse hunting. Our premier English Setter sire, Bullet, is a testament to the high-quality dogs we produce, with his impressive lineage of Chenango Valley, Bozeanne's Whiskey River, Grouse Ridge, and Tug Hill hunting bloodlines.
English Setter Breeding Program
Our selective breeding program is the heart and soul of our kennel. We take great pride in producing the finest grouse dogs that bring joy to hunters and families alike. We plan a litter once or twice a year, primarily targeting hunters. However, English Setters are versatile dogs that adapt easily to various environments, making them excellent family pets. Our English Setter pups usually find their forever homes at the end of summer each year. We invite the new owners to bring their pups back for professional training with us, setting the foundation for a successful hunting partnership.
Exposing English Setter pups to birds as soon as possible helps to develop their natural instincts and eagerness to hunt. We are more than happy to guide you in starting your new English Setter pup on the right path. Our dogs are known for their intelligence, comfortable range, and eagerness to please. Grouse hunting is a shared passion for our English Setters and us, and it shows in the quality of dogs we breed and train.
Training Hunting Breeds and Grouse Dogs
While English Setters are our breed of choice, we extend our training services to all pointing breeds, from young pups to seasoned veterans. We welcome the more challenging cases and enforce a three-month minimum stay to ensure quality training for your dog. Our training season ranges from May to the end of September, enabling us to focus on training during the off-season and hunt with our English Setters when the season begins.
At Chenango Valley Kennels, we believe that training a hunting dog requires patience, dedication, and understanding. We work with you to develop a training schedule tailored to your dog's needs. After a week of acclimating to new surroundings and handlers, we begin the training process. We understand that learning curves vary and ask that you wait for our progress reports, much like waiting for a child's report card at the end of a school term. At the end of the training period, you are invited to watch your dog work and receive instruction on reinforcing what they have learned. Our goal is to maximize the enjoyment you and your hunting partner will experience in the field.
Dog Boarding
Our 32-run facility, with each run measuring 4' x 16', comfortably accommodates dogs of all sizes and shapes. We ask that your pet be current with booster and rabies vaccinations. If you do not wish to bring food, we provide high-quality meals. Blankets are discouraged, but treats and toys are welcome to keep your pet entertained during their stay. Our English Setters are always eager to make new friends!
In the Words of Others
Over the years, we have had the privilege of being featured in various publications and media outlets. The Shooting Sportsman magazine published an article by Tred Slough, "When the Twain Did Meet, " which beautifully captures our dedication to breeding and training English Pointers and English Setters. Field & Stream Magazine published an article by Rod Cochran on New York Grouse Hunting Then & Now, featuring our kennel and Vincent Guglielmo's expertise in grouse hunting.
