Empowering Lives, One Step at a Time

At Counseling & Neurofeedback Services, we are a group of independently licensed professionals who are committed to providing the highest standard of care in mental health. With over 40 years of combined counseling experience, we offer a full range of therapies for individuals and families, including traditional methods like talk therapy and non-traditional methods like neurofeedback therapy.

Our diverse team of professionals includes Anne Marie Cook, a seasoned Clinical Social Worker with expertise in working with adolescents and young adults, and Michele Ward, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and neurotherapist with a Master's Degree in Psychology. Together, we provide a comprehensive range of services to support individuals and families facing a wide range of issues, including ADD/ADHD, autism, depression, anxiety, and grief and bereavement.

Our Services

We offer a variety of services, including:

  • Couples/Family Counseling: We work with blended families to promote better interaction through the use of Systems Thinking. We also provide counseling for marital and relationship issues, grief, cognitive behavioral therapy, adjusting to divorce, dealing with difficult children, infidelity, and anger management.
  • Individual Counseling: We work with children, adolescents, and adults to address a range of issues, including depression, substance abuse, relationship issues, anxiety, divorce, adoption, ADD/ADHD, blended families, and more.
  • Neurofeedback: Neurofeedback is a noninvasive alternative treatment for ADD, ADHD, autism, depression, sleep disorders, learning disabilities, and anxiety. It can increase concentration and enhance physical and mental well-being.
  • Biofeedback: Biofeedback decreases anxiety through its relaxation techniques. We use HEG biofeedback to treat many learning disabilities, and we offer The Listening Program, which is an auditory stimulation program used for auditory processing difficulties.
  • Group Therapy: We offer various groups, including a women's group, social skills groups, junior high groups, and testing and assessments.

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a computer-assisted learning therapy that helps train brain behavior. It is a painless, non-invasive treatment that involves placing sensors on your scalp and/or ears. These sensors detect your brain waves, which are then monitored by an electroencephalogram (EEG) monitor, an amplifier, and a computer-based instrument that processes the signals and provides feedback. During treatment, you use your brain waves to control a video game on the computer screen. The games are very easy to play, and you "play" with your brain; there is no controller for your hands. If you produce the right brain wave patterns, the game proceeds; otherwise, it slows or stops.

Why Does it Work?

Neurofeedback is a type of biofeedback that addresses cognitive symptoms. Neurofeedback protocols and assessment models are based on extensive research and study of the brain and the specific functions of its parts, such as frontal lobes and hemispheres. By training the brain to become more efficient in these areas through brain exercises, functioning improves significantly.

What is it Used For?

Neurofeedback, also known as EEG biofeedback, is used for many conditions and symptoms in which the brain is not working as well as it could. These include ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, learning disabilities, and anxiety.
