Where family, friends, and great food come together
Discover the healing power of ancient Chinese and Japanese medicine at Naomi Takata Acupuncture and Shiatsu Therapy. Our mission is to help you achieve better health and wellness through safe, effective, and chemical-free treatment methods. We specialize in acupuncture and Shiatsu therapy, but also offer a variety of other modalities to address a wide range of health concerns.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical practice that involves the insertion of hair-thin, flexible needles into specific points on the body to activate the body's own healing powers. This balancing act is well suited to address many human (and animal) conditions, whether it be very specific physical conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome or a common ankle sprain, chronic systemic issues such as fibromyalgia or rheumatoid arthritis, or often challenging, mysterious or undistinguishable conditions often baffled by Western medicine. The principle of Chinese medicine is to restore balance. Restoring this balance relieves the experienced negative symptoms. This process is fundamentally opposite of Western medicine, where symptoms themselves are targeted.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of Asian bodywork therapy based on Chinese medical theory. This hands-on full body massage involves finger pressure, palming, pressing, rocking, and stretching. Treatments take place on a massage table or on a futon, and you will be dressed in loose, comfortable clothing for your comfort. Shiatsu is deeply relaxing and helps to stimulate and unleash the blocked meridian pathways.
Acu-Shiatsu
Acu-Shiatsu is a combination acupuncture and Shiatsu treatment, merging the healing powers of both modalities. This treatment is especially tailored for deep relaxation, to combat stress and renew your spirits. Acu-Shiatsu is 60 minutes (30 minutes shiatsu + 30 minutes auricular acupuncture).
Other Modalities
Other Oriental medical modalities that we use include moxibustion, cupping, Gua Sha and E-Stim. Moxibustion involves the heating of acupuncture points with smoldering mugwort herb (known as moxa). This safe, non-invasive technique may be used alone, but it is generally used in conjunction with acupuncture. Cupping is an ancient technique, used in many cultures, in which a special cup is applied to the skin and held in place by suction. The suction draws superficial tissue into the cup, which may either enhance circulation or help to remove "stagnation" (a concept in traditional Chinese medicine). Gua Sha is a close cousin to cupping. It involves repeated pressured strokes over lubricated skin with a smooth edge. Gua Sha is often used to move "stuck" blood in underlying muscle tissue and to stimulate the flow of blood and Qi. E-Stim involves the use of a small electrical current passed through the needles to stimulate the acupuncture points further.
