Kodiak Island Charters (KIC) is a family-owned business that has been operating in Kodiak, Alaska since 1990. Our mission is to provide exceptional fishing charters and share our passion for the ocean and the outdoors with our clients. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail, superior customer service, and commitment to maintaining a small business-like atmosphere.

Our Story

KIC was founded by Rev. & Mrs. Moon as part of a hobby industry initiative. What started as a one-man, one-boat operation has grown over the past three decades to become a respected and reputable charter service, offering three boats, three captains, and a busy summer and fall season. Despite our growth, we remain committed to our core values of providing quality customer service, maintaining a small business-like atmosphere, and embodying a sense of care and concern for our customers and employees.

Our Captains

Our captains are experienced fishermen and outdoorsmen who share our passion for fishing and the ocean. They are dedicated to providing a world-class fishing experience that exceeds your expectations. Our captains are:

  • Chris Fiala: A skipper with over 30 years of experience, Chris has a keen perception of the marine environment and its biology.
  • Carey Owens: A natural-born fisherman and hunter, Carey has extensive commercial and charter fishing experience.
  • David Reyes: A native Seattleite with over 15 years of experience living in Kodiak, David is an expert on the ins and outs of the Kodiak waters and our services.
  • Jonathan Von Euw: The newest addition to our captain's crew, Jonathan has dedicated almost a decade of his summers to fishing on our waters and is devoted to providing a world-class experience for his clients.

Our Boats

We operate three boats, each with its own unique characteristics and features. Our boats include:

  • U-Rascal: A 43-foot boat with a spacious cabin, full bathroom, and twin John Deere turbo diesels, capable of cruising at 18 knots.
  • Moon Shadow: A 35-foot boat with a large cabin, full bath, and beamy cockpit, featuring a new John Deere turbo diesel and a cruising speed of 18 knots.
  • Harvest Moon: A 34-foot, 12.5 feet wide, fiberglass boat with a sizable cabin, full bath, and twin Yanmar turbo diesels, capable of cruising at 24 knots.

Our Fishing Services

We offer a range of fishing services, including:

  • Halibut fishing: Abundant May through October
  • Salmon fishing: King salmon feed year-long around the island, with the most numerous during the biologically explosive summer months, while Silver salmon are present in the saltwater from early July to September.
  • Fish here are plentiful and aggressive, making for an exciting fishing experience.
