Engineers & Surveyors Institute

The Engineers and Surveyors Institute (ESI) is a nonprofit Virginia corporation formed in December of 1987. Our mission is to promote a public/private partnership devoted to improving the quality of engineering plans and the process by which they are approved. We provide programs designed to improve the design and approval process, maintain current practice education for private and public professionals, and improve communication throughout the land development industry. Our membership consists of engineering and surveying firms practicing land development in Virginia, local jurisdictions, the Virginia Department of Transportation, public utility agencies, and organizations producing products for the industry. ESI is the proud recipient of the prestigious U. S. Senate Productivity Award for Virginia.

Professional Licensing

The Virginia General Assembly passed a bill during the 2006 legislative session which mandates that the APELSCIDLA Board implement a mandatory continuing education program (HB1054). The law became effective on July 1, 2006. As a licensed professional in VA, you are required to complete 16 Continuing Education Credit Hours (CECH). All ESI classes meet the criteria for license renewal in Virginia according to APELSCIDLA requirements. Additionally, ESI is an accepted Certified Education Provider in Florida, North Carolina, and Maryland, and our Professional Development classes have been accepted in West Virginia and Georgia.
