Preserving the Past, Securing the Future
The Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum is a nonprofit community center that has been dedicated to promoting community enrichment and preserving the rich history of its landmark building since 1993. Our mission is to provide a welcoming space for people of all ages to gather, learn, and celebrate, while ensuring the preservation of our historic landmark.
Our History
The Carnegie Center's history dates back to 1906, when Andrew Carnegie donated a significant sum of money to build a public library in Columbia Tusculum. The library was designed by the renowned architectural firm of Samuel Hannaford & Sons and served the community for over 50 years. After it was sold into private use in 1959, a group of dedicated residents formed the Columbia Tusculum Community Council (CTCC) to restore the building to its former glory. Their efforts led to the reopening of the Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum as a nonprofit community center, offering a wide range of programs, events, and services to the community.
