Ferrous vs. Non-Ferrous Metals
Ferrous metals contain iron and are known for their strength. Examples of ferrous metals include steel, stainless steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Ferrous metals can rust if left out in the elements for a short or long period of time. Non-ferrous metals, on the other hand, do not contain any iron and are less prone to corrosion. Examples of non-ferrous metals include copper, aluminum, and aluminum alloys, as well as brass, tin, lead, and zinc.
How to Detect Ferrous Metals
To detect ferrous metals, simply use a magnet. If the metal is attracted to the magnet, it is likely a ferrous metal. Non-ferrous metals are non-magnetic.
