Transforming Lives Through Healthy Weight Management

Hello and welcome! I am Dr. Kimberly Mallett, a licensed clinical psychologist dedicated to enhancing your emotional well-being. I am delighted that you have taken the time to visit my website and I understand that choosing a therapist you feel comfortable working with is an essential decision. My top priority is to assist my clients in improving their well-being by providing them with the compassion and care they deserve.

I earned my Ph. D. in Clinical Psychology in 2005 from the University of Washington in Seattle and completed my APA-approved internship at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA. I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Colorado (Psy.0005196) and a Professor at Penn State University (while living in Colorado), where I focus my research on improving the health and lives of individuals through clinically based interventions.

Apart from working with individuals dealing with various issues (e.g., depression, anxiety, adjustment to difficult life events), I have specialized expertise in the treatment of alcohol and substance-related problems and coping with chronic health problems. My commitment to continued learning and professional development allows me to provide the best possible care to my clients.

Services I Offer

Therapy sessions with me are designed to strengthen your confidence and assist you in the healing process. I offer individual counseling, tailored to your specific needs, to help you identify and resolve current problems, enhance positive thinking and behavior, and provide you with strategies to cope with life's challenges.

I specialize in treating adults (ages 18 and older) for a variety of issues, including alcohol and substance use problems, anxiety, adjustment-related difficulties, challenges and concerns related to living with chronic health issues (e.g., cancer, stroke, spinal-cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and multiple sclerosis), depression, mood-related difficulties, relationship/interpersonal problems, and stress-related problems. While I primarily work with individuals, I also work with couples when appropriate.

My Approach to Therapy

As a clinical psychologist, I consistently use evidence-based treatments, but I recognize that each client is unique and tailor therapy to address his or her specific needs. I use a person-centered approach and believe that therapy is most productive in the context of a supportive, collaborative, and non-judgmental environment.

To achieve this, I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches supported by research, such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-based approaches, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Systemic Therapy, among others. I have specific expertise in treating alcohol and substance abuse problems and work with individuals who are at different stages of change and have different goals in terms of alcohol and substance use (reduced use, abstinence).

I focus on relapse prevention and harm reduction approaches and address factors in a person's life that contribute to substance use problems (e.g., stress, depression, etc.). My goal is to provide you with the tools and strategies you need to manage your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors more effectively and improve your overall well-being.

Thank you for considering me as your therapist. I am here to support and guide you through any challenges you face with the compassion and care you deserve. Please don't hesitate to contact me for more information.
