A Journey in Clay
My fascination with clay began with a profound connection to the vibrancy of red earth. The smooth, sensual texture of terra cotta draws me in, offering a surface endlessly playful with light and shadow. This ancient material has adorned homes and public spaces for centuries, whispering stories of generations past.
A Play of Color and Design
My artistic approach involves meticulous hand-building techniques. Each piece is formed on the potter's wheel, resulting in unique forms that showcase the inherent beauty of the clay. The nuanced application of white majolica glaze invites an interplay of colors and patterns. Inspired by my travels to diverse regions, I use Mason stains derived from powdered pigments, meticulously carving into the wet clay. The resulting patterns echo the organic forms found in nature, creating a connection to place and time.
From Garden Ware to Contemporary Masterpieces
My journey as a potter has spanned over three decades. From humble garden ware to captivating pit-fired forms and now vibrant majolica earthenware, my work has evolved with each stage of my journey. My experiences working with indigenous potters in Africa and my studies on traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern ceramics have enriched my artistic vocabulary.
A Passion for Sharing
My studio is a sanctuary, nestled amidst the peaceful Vermont mountains. Each piece is born from a deep connection to the earth, reflecting the vibrant hues and organic forms surrounding me. I find immense joy in sharing my passion for pottery with others, offering workshops and welcoming visitors to witness the magic of working with clay.
