Advocating for Sustainable Mountain Bike Trails in Colorado
Founded in 1989, our organization has dedicated over three decades to advocating for sustainable mountain biking trails across Western Colorado. We operate through four active chaptersGrand Valley Trails, Delta Area Mountain Bikers, Montrose Uncompahgre Trails, and Ridgway Area Trailsuniting volunteers and communities in trail building and preservation. Our efforts have resulted in over 8 miles of new singletrack development in 2024 alone, supported by partnerships with the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife and local conservation corps. We prioritize community engagement through events like the RAT Race and Stoke Nights, fostering stewardship and celebrating mountain biking culture. Our volunteer-driven model has contributed more than 3,000 hours annually to trail maintenance and expansion, including the completion of the RAT expansion and the K2 Play trail, honoring former coordinator Kristina Kittelson.

We actively protect public lands from privatization, collaborating with advocacy groups to ensure access to outdoor recreation spaces. Our rebranded Grand Valley Trails chapter reflects our commitment to evolving with community needs while maintaining environmental integrity. Through transparent collaboration with agencies and landowners, we ensure trails meet both rider expectations and ecological standards. Our annual reports highlight measurable progress in trail development, volunteer participation, and community partnerships, demonstrating our accountability to members and stakeholders. As a leader in regional trail advocacy, we combine grassroots activism with professional expertise to create lasting outdoor recreation opportunities.

Our efforts have resulted in over 8 miles of new singletrack in 2024 alone.
Trail Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures trails remain safe and accessible for all users. Our volunteer teams and professional builders conduct routine inspections, repairs, and improvements to sustain trail quality. This includes erosion control, signage updates, and vegetation management to maintain optimal riding conditions year-round.
Mountain Bike Advocacy
We actively promote mountain biking as a valuable recreational activity through policy advocacy and public engagement. Our initiatives focus on protecting public lands, preventing privatization of trails, and fostering partnerships with conservation groups. We educate policymakers and the public on the economic and environmental benefits of sustainable trail networks.
Community Events
We organize events that bring together riders, volunteers, and local communities to celebrate mountain biking culture. Activities include races like the RAT Race, social gatherings such as Stoke Nights, and educational workshops. These events strengthen community ties and raise awareness about trail conservation efforts.
