Empowering Young Minds, One Child at a Time
Willson Preschool, a cherished institution in our community since 1966, is a non-profit developmental preschool dedicated to nurturing the growth of every child. We believe in providing a rich and engaging environment where children can explore, learn, and thrive. Our mission is to enrich the lives of young learners by fostering their development in all areas - social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and creative. Through play, singing, and hands-on learning experiences, our preschoolers develop essential skills that lay the foundation for success in school and beyond.
Our History
Willson Preschool began as a grassroots initiative fueled by the vision of several dedicated mothers. Seeking a learning opportunity for their preschool-aged children and a chance for some well-deserved "me time", these mothers joined forces in 1966 to establish a small, community-based program that would eventually blossom into the thriving preschool it is today. Over the decades, Willson Preschool has embraced growth and adaptation, responding to the evolving needs of our community and the children we serve. Early gatherings took place on Thursdays, welcoming all children in the area. Celeste Haynes served as the inaugural Director until 1971, followed by Jeanne Eggert. The program expanded, adding days and age groups, then moved several times, finally settling into its current home in 2006.
Our Program Objectives
At Willson Preschool, we believe every child is unique and learns best through play-based experiences. Our curriculum is designed to stimulate curiosity and encourage a love of learning.
- Socialization: Through interacting with their peers, children develop essential social skills such as empathy, communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution. Our small class sizes and nurturing environment allow for meaningful connections and friendships to blossom.
- Cognitive Development: We provide a variety of hands-on activities, engaging stories, and age-appropriate learning materials that stimulate critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and language development. Our preschoolers are encouraged to explore, experiment, and ask questions, fostering a lifelong love of learning.
- Physical Development: Gross and fine motor skills are nurtured through activities like dramatic play, building, art, music, and outdoor exploration.
- Emotional Intelligence: We create a safe and supportive space where children can express their emotions, develop self-awareness, and learn to manage their feelings.
- Creative Expression: Art, music, dramatic play, and storytelling are integral parts of our curriculum, allowing children to explore their creativity, imagination, and self-expression.
