Oneka Benn Schwartz, the founder of Design Pretty, shares her inspiring story of how she turned her passion for fashion and interior design into a reality.

Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Oneka immigrated to New Jersey at the age of 5 with her family. Growing up, she was drawn to fashion and interior design, believing that "the best part of beauty is that which no picture can express." Francis Bacon's quote resonated deeply with her.

Having left their home with limited possessions, Oneka's family lacked tangible legacy pieces. This realization fueled her goal to create quality products that were affordable for everyday people. Her grandmother, a seamstress in Guyana, taught her how to sew, and Oneka's first sewing project was a set of sheets and a duvet cover.

Early Years and Fashion

I'm Oneka, a wife and mom of three beautiful children. I make a line of table linens and home decor out of my home studio in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. My product line has evolved over the years to include a wide range of home decor items, from elegant statement pieces to functional decor items that boast multi-purpose versatility.

Where It All Began

Having left our home with a few suitcases, my family had no heirlooms. We had memories and family pride in spades but no tangible legacy pieces. As I grew up in a working class family, it became clear the cost of quality was slightly outside of what we could afford. That never sat well with me. It became my goal to create quality products that were affordable to everyday folks.
