I'm Joe Shaw, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-S) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) with a deep passion for helping individuals, couples, families, and groups achieve personal growth and overcome challenges. I believe in the power of therapy to create positive change in people's lives, and consider it an honor to walk alongside clients as they navigate through life's complexities.
My Background and Experience
My educational foundation includes a Bachelor's degree in History from Rutgers University and a Master's degree in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University. My clinical experience spans various settings, including counseling agencies, mental health hospitals, and a hospice. I've had the privilege of working with individuals and couples struggling with depression, bipolar disorder, relationship issues, life transitions, grief and loss, trauma, abuse, and addictions.
My Approach to Therapy
I utilize a client-centered, collaborative approach to therapy, drawing on psychodynamic, existential, and family systems theories. This means I believe in a supportive, non-judgmental space where clients can explore their concerns, identify their strengths, and develop coping mechanisms. I tailor my interventions to meet each client's unique needs and goals.
