The Demarest Cooperative Nursery School has been a cornerstone in the community for over 50 years, providing a warm, inviting, and educational environment for children from various backgrounds. Our nonsectarian curriculum, which does not include religious instruction, allows us to celebrate a wide range of holiday traditions, making our school a place where diversity is cherished.
Our People: The Heart of Our School
We are proud to have a team of exceptionally dedicated and trained staff, including our director and head teacher, Mrs. Laurie Neithardt, and group teachers, Mrs. Lisa Ullman and Mrs. Christine Marti. Our staff's enthusiasm and commitment to early childhood education are what set us apart. Each of our staff members holds a college degree in areas such as early childhood, elementary education, music, and psychology, ensuring that your child is in the best possible care.
Cooperative Spirit: A Partnership with Our Families
As a cooperative nursery school, we offer parents the unique opportunity to not only participate in their child's first school experience but also to have a say in the decisions that shape our school's policies. Our parent executive board, which includes parents who are elected to this position, meets monthly to discuss and vote on all issues related to the direct operation of the school.
Your Options: Co-op or Non Co-op
We understand that every family is unique, which is why we offer both co-op and non-co-op options. If you choose the co-op route, you will have the chance to work in the classroom with your child about one to two times a month. This not only allows you to be more involved in your child's learning journey but also to bond with other families who are part of our school community. If you prefer the non-co-op option, you do not have to worry about assigned times in the classroom; however, you are always welcome to participate in school events and make your contribution to the school's success.
Enriching Our Community: Fundraising and Events
Our fundraising efforts are aimed at providing the best possible experience for our children. All the money we raise goes directly towards enrichment programs, special guests, field trips, and specialty equipment for the school. Our events are a wonderful way to meet other families and create lasting relationships while contributing to the betterment of our school.
A Year in Our School: What to Expect
The academic year at our school typically begins in the second week of September and concludes in the first week of June, with an optional two-week summer camp for three and four-year-olds. We closely follow the Demarest Public School calendar, aligning our holidays, school breaks, and snow days with theirs. Our monthly newsletters keep parents informed about upcoming field trips, parties, special resource people, enrichment programs, fundraising events, and any other important information.
