Academics Plus is an experienced instructional partner committed to improving each student's academic performance while creating an atmosphere of empowerment, enhancing the joy of learning, and encouraging personal excellence in school, the community, and at home. Our company has been serving the McKinney, Texas, area since 1991 and has a proven track record of helping students achieve significant academic gains.

Company History

Academics Plus was founded in 1991 by Melinda and Mark Crenwelge, both of whom held advanced degrees in education and had worked as educators in the Dallas area since the early 1980s. As parents and active members of their community, the Crenwelges understood the value and importance of a quality education and were committed to providing supplemental education services to help students succeed.

In 2013, Stephanie Talley joined the team as an instructor and quickly moved up the ranks to Assistant Director and then Director. Stephanie holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Psychology. In 2015, Stephanie purchased the business from the Crenwelges and remains committed to the company's mission of positively impacting the lives of A+ students, their families, and the local community by dramatically increasing each student's academic performance in the classroom.

Academic Programs

Academics Plus offers both enrichment and remedial programs for K-12 students. Our instruction is diagnostic and prescriptive, based on each learner's individual needs. We use research-based, data-driven instruction and commit to achieving specific, written goals or else continuing instruction for free until such goals are met. Our academic results have documented significant gains with previously failing students, and we are proud of the positive impact we have had on school campuses and individual students.

In addition to our core academic programs, we also offer college readiness programs, diagnostic and prescriptive instruction, and instruction and event calendars. Our SAT/ACT prep programs have helped many students improve their scores and increase their chances of getting into the college of their choice.

Community Involvement

At Academics Plus, ethical standards are of the utmost importance. Our company and its leadership have a long history of community service and involvement, including serving on various community boards, such as the Rotary Club of McKinney, the McKinney Morning Pride Lions Club, and the McKinney Rotary Club. We believe that giving back to the community is an important part of our mission and are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those we serve.
