The Northeast Waste Management Officials' Association (NEWMOA) is a non-profit, non-partisan, interstate association whose membership is composed of the state environment agency programs that address pollution prevention, waste management, and environmental protection. Our mission is to lead the Northeast to a sustainable, waste-free future by providing a collaborative forum for our members to share knowledge, resources, and best practices in addressing environmental challenges.

Our Services

NEWMOA offers a wide range of services to its members and the public, including fee-for-service programs, active programs, clearinghouses, events, publications, and resources. Our areas of expertise include climate action, continuous improvement, environmental justice, hazardous waste, innovative strategies, materials management, mercury clearinghouse, packaging clearinghouse, PFAS, pollution prevention, and waste site cleanup. We provide a platform for our members to engage in workgroups, committees, and projects that focus on specific environmental issues, such as anaerobic digestion, brownfields, and emerging contaminants. Our events and publications provide opportunities for professionals to network, learn, and share knowledge on the latest trends and best practices in waste management and environmental protection.

Our Impact

NEWMOA has made a significant impact in the Northeast region, with 38 active workgroups or committees working on various environmental projects, 19 state agencies convening and coordinating through our association, and 91% of respondents to our 2022 annual survey reporting that they use the information they learned through our activities. Our work has contributed to reducing PFAS and other emerging contaminants, improving cleanups, and advancing sustainable materials management.
