Linehaul Logistics, Inc. was founded on May 9th, 2003 by Stuart Looney, a visionary leader with a wealth of experience in the trucking industry. Looney, who previously served as the CFO of Bitterroot International Trucking, decided to embark on his own entrepreneurial journey after witnessing the company's struggles leading to its eventual bankruptcy. Determined to build a company based on solid principles and unwavering safety standards, Looney launched Linehaul Logistics with a small group of loyal customers from his former employer.
The company's first office was located in Missoula, Montana, at 430 Ryman Street, and they operated primarily with a focus on flatbed freight, eschewing dry van and reefer services, as well as freight bound for the west coast. Linehaul's operations heavily relied on manual processes, with rate confirmations hand-written and onboarding packets faxed. Utilizing Keystone Technologies as their Transportation Management System, the early years were marked by a dedication to consistent, reliable service built upon foundational processes.
Over the course of 13 years under Looney's leadership, Linehaul Logistics underwent steady growth, averaging 13 customers and $5.4 million in annual sales. With a dedicated team of just six employees, the company earned a reputation for its meticulous attention to detail and commitment to client satisfaction. But the company was poised for a new chapter.
In June 2016, Jerrod Schmauch and Brian May acquired Linehaul Logistics from Stuart Looney, bringing a fresh wave of energy and enthusiasm to the company. Immediately, the new owners sought to foster a culture of collaboration and innovation, emphasizing the importance of employee satisfaction and creative problem-solving. Schmauch, in particular, inspired his team with his motto: "Let's just have some fun."
One of the first major changes under Schmauch and May's leadership was the transition from Keystone Technologies to McLeod as their Transportation Management System. While the initial process presented some challenges, the switch ultimately proved transformative, equipping Linehaul with the tools necessary to streamline operations and achieve a fully automated workflow.
Further solidifying their commitment to growth and innovation, the company relocated its headquarters from 500 Higgins Street to a larger facility in Lolo, Montana, while simultaneously constructing their state-of-the-art office at 1515 South Reserve Street in Missoula. This strategic move allowed Linehaul to accommodate its expanding team and create a modern, collaborative work environment.
The last few years have witnessed an exceptional transformation for Linehaul Logistics. The company's innovative approach, robust technology infrastructure, and unwavering commitment to safety have propelled it to new heights, averaging $12 million in annual revenue, with a remarkable finish in 2022 exceeding $16 million, serving more than 35 customers along the way.
