See Your Best. Look Your Best. Because We Know Eyes, and We Know You.
Pioneer Preschool is a privately owned preschool that has been serving the Overland Park, Kansas community since 1981. Under the directorship of Geri K. Allcorn, we have been providing quality early childhood education to children ages three through transitional kindergarten. Our mission is to provide skills for learning at all levels, develop positive feelings of self-worth, and instill love, courtesy, and respect for all.
Our Focus: Creative Learning
At Pioneer Preschool, we believe that children learn best through hands-on experiences that are fun and engaging. Our curriculum is designed to promote creative learning, where children can experiment, create, and discover the joy of learning. We provide opportunities for children to learn through art, music, and verbal expression, as well as through interactions with others. We also emphasize the development of social and emotional skills, such as awareness of right and wrong and the expression of love and kindness towards others.
Experienced and Qualified Staff
Our staff includes ten teachers, nine of whom hold college degrees, and one holding the Child Development Credential as a Child Development Associate awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition. Our teachers are supported by four assistants, all of whom are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for our students. All of our staff members are subject to background checks annually by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Safety and Security
At Pioneer Preschool, the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We have measures in place to monitor visitors to our premises, and we have an "open door" policy for parents who wish to visit while their child/children are in attendance. We encourage parents to visit and check in at the office when visiting. We also conduct regular safety drills and ensure that all staff members are trained in emergency procedures.
Curriculum and Programs
Our curriculum is planned around a developmentally appropriate curriculum where children are engaged in hands-on activities. We offer a variety of programs and activities that are designed to promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Our kindergarten readiness skills are introduced in our daily schedule, which is centered around structured as well as free time activities. These activities include arts and crafts, music, games, stories, outdoor play, snack time, and free play. We also offer Transitional Kindergarten classes for students who may benefit from an additional year of preparation prior to attending kindergarten.
Communication and Involvement
At Pioneer Preschool, we believe that parent involvement is essential to a child's success. We encourage parents to be involved in their child's education and offer opportunities for parents to volunteer in the classroom, attend parent-teacher conferences, and receive monthly newsletters that keep them informed of the curriculum units presented during each month.
Enrollment and Admissions
Pioneer Preschool does not discriminate in admissions or determination of enrollment on the basis of race, sex, color, national origin, or physical handicap in accordance with Kansas civil rights statute K.S.A. 44-1009. We welcome parents to visit and encourage them to call for an appointment.
