As a born-and-raised Portlander with a deep love for horses, hunting, and the great outdoors, I, Mackenzie Wright, am thrilled to share my dream of owning a bed and breakfast with you. After working as a peace officer in North Dakota and starting a family, I decided to embark on this new adventure to support and spend as much time as possible with my family. Today, my daughter Madeline and I run Dakota Dream with the help of our K-9 companion, Able, who frequently joins us in educating children and teens about the dangers of drugs.

Our Accommodations

At Dakota Dream, we offer a range of comfortable and unique accommodations to suit your needs. Our two guest rooms, The Bears Den and The Black Hills Room, are located in our main house and offer cozy furnishings, en suite bathrooms, and stunning views of the surrounding landscape. If you're looking for a bit more privacy, our Cabin guestroom is a spacious log cabin nestled on a hillside, offering a full kitchenette, queen-size bed, and a front deck perfect for watching deer wander through.

For larger groups or those traveling with horses, our Horse Hotel offers large, roomy stalls with individual paddocks and pasture, located just steps away from amazing trails and beautiful views. During hunting season, our Hunter's Cabin provides everything you need to process and store your game, so you can enjoy every moment of your trip without rushing to beat the clock. And for even more space, our all-new Sheep Wagon is the perfect addition to any family vacation.

Our Location

Conveniently located just outside the city limits of Custer, Dakota Dream is a short drive away from many Black Hills attractions, including Custer City, the Mickelson Trail, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore, and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. No matter what brings you to the Black Hills, Dakota Dream is the perfect base camp for all your adventures.

Our Amenities

At Dakota Dream, we strive to provide our guests with everything they need for a comfortable and memorable stay. Each of our accommodations comes fully equipped with dishes, pots & pans, utensils, linens, and towels, so you can feel right at home. During the summer months, our guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast on the deck, taking in the fresh air and stunning views of the surrounding landscape. And for those looking for a romantic evening under the stars, our gas grill and picnic area offer the perfect setting for a cozy dinner for two.

Our Policies

At Dakota Dream, we have a few policies in place to ensure that all of our guests have a safe and enjoyable stay. We require a 3-night minimum stay for all of our accommodations, and we do not allow smoking or pets. We do not provide daily housekeeping, but we are more than happy to provide extra linens and towels upon request. And while we do not have a specific check-in or check-out time, we do ask that our guests let us know their estimated arrival time so that we can ensure a smooth and easy check-in process.
