Petroleum Accountants Society

The Petroleum Accountants Society of Houston (PASH) is a charter member and one of the largest individual societies of the Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies (COPAS). With 25 societies that make up COPAS, the petroleum industry has a platform to discuss industry problems, find solutions, and receive training and education in oil and gas accounting and auditing.

PASH is dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals and organizations in the petroleum industry to enhance their leadership skills, increase their knowledge of industry best practices and procedures, and network with industry counterparts. PASH has been a significant player in the industry's growth and development since its inception in the early 1950s. At that time, Houston, Texas, had experienced steady growth as the country developed in a post-World War II growth spurt. The oil and gas industry, too, was no exception. Accounting in the petroleum industry was also developing, and there was a need for a local organization of petroleum accountants in Houston. Alfred F. Hagen of Shell Oil Company proposed the action, and the move was underway.

Membership Benefits

For the Individual Membership, PASH provides opportunities to develop leadership skills, increase knowledge of industry best practices and procedures, and network with industry counterparts. Members have access to monthly membership meetings, educational events, and committees that discuss the latest developments in their area of expertise. They can also participate in the annual PASH Picnic & Golf Tournament and the Georgeanna Sockwell Memorial Golf Tournament.

For the Organization Membership, PASH gives a voice in projects relating to industry guidelines, and enhances employees' abilities to reach key counterparts and facilitate issue resolution in a timely manner. Organizations can increase their exposure to the industry and gain access to a pool of experienced professionals. They can participate in committees, contribute to the industry's growth and development, and have a significant impact on the industry's future.

Events and Education

PASH holds monthly membership meetings from September through April each year. Each committee conducts meetings to discuss the latest developments in their area of expertise. All members come together for a technical presentation and announcements at the dinner. PASH also hosts an annual Education Day, featuring great topics and renowned experts in the industry. This full-day event provides attendees with valuable insights and knowledge of the industry's latest trends and best practices.

PASH's annual Picnic & Golf Tournament and the Georgeanna Sockwell Memorial Golf Tournament are popular events that provide members with opportunities to network, socialize, and enjoy a fun day of golf. These events are an excellent way to build relationships, strengthen existing connections, and enhance leadership skills.
